January 22th Maclaud’s horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus maclaudi)

Diet: Insects
Range: Guinea
Conservation Status: Endangered

Look at the noseleaf on this bat! The Maclauds horseshoe is a large African insect bat with a beautiful yellow coat. These bats have only been found in Guinea in small numbers, primarily in caves but occasionally in peoples homes. Until 2014 these bats were hunted for bushmeat however the Ebola crisis put an end to that.
